Surprised to find it in my backyard - bare clay, pine mulch then eucalyptus chips for 35 years.

Have you brought in external mulch within the past few years? Onion orchids and potato orchids have a habit of turning up in mulch. If you head to Garema Pl you can enjoy a fine selection of mulch-loving orchids.
