I’ve just reviewed sightings of Cyathea australis subsp. australis which is the only Cyathea sp. included in CNM. There were sightings on Black Mountain and MacGregor. David said there was one on Mt Ainslie. Those are the only sightings in CNM in the urban reserves. Given that David and Kevin (who recently published South Coast Ferns) agree that it is a tree fern, could it be approved as Cyathea sp. in CNM? I’ve been monitoring it for months and I thought the plant had disappeared but found that it was covered in grass. There is another fern next to this one that seems like a different species to me but it is too young for identification and I’ve submitted it as a different sighting. Regardless, it might be good to remove the coordinates, although it is in a location that most would not venture. I’d love it if someone would add Cyathea sp. as option in CNM and confirm it.
The only Dicksonia antarctica in CNM in the urban area is one that was planted. If I get permission to collect what looks like the most mature frond and take it into the herbarium do you think someone could identify it?
