Added more photos after a couple of weeks - larva has updated its casing with petals.

No it's a caterpillar. It would be really good if you could keep it in protective custody (caterpillars in the wild suffer a 99% predation rate) to get an adult moth so we can determine the species.

Hi Don, I'm happy to try that. Will it be eating the sunray leaves or does it actually eat the flower/pollen do you know?
I don't have much hoary sunray but I do have a lot of chamomile leaf sunray so could see if it's happy with that.
