Ok. Leaves very different and not thorny enough for Rubus. It reminds me vaguely of my Veronica at KV (I have lots of it) same species but KV one is much smaller. We must grow them big here in Canberra.

Finally went and keyed this one. It is indeed V.calycina as you suggest, based upon leaf margin shape and stem hairs.
