This is a cedar tree in our garden (don't think it's native). It may be the food plant of nearby caterpillars, so I'm curious if anyone can tell me what this tree is. It had compact green (3-5 cm diameter) cones earlier this year, which have now opened up into woody shapes as shown in the photo. There appear to be new flowers (?) developing.
Thanks, that's very helpful. The cones of this cypress look similar to the ones I had here. Should have known that these don't flower as they evolved before flowering plants? Thanks for pointing that out, I will remember now
