Barb I can't confirm id from your 1st photo. Could the structures be galls from invertebrates? invertebrate galls can be large and fuzzy. The structures in your photo seem to have pointed ridges not that nearly velvety surface that I know from gall forming fungus. The other 3 photos don't show the structure. It seems that the host is a Silverwattle? at least the leaves shown on the first and second photos indicate A. dealbata but may belong to a different plant.
I have seen fungus gall rusts on A. dealbata (below summit), A. implexa (widely spread) and Exocarpos cupressiformis (widely spread), which might be all different species. There might be gall forming fungus rusts of various kind on one host species or there might be a variation of gall structures from one fungus species depending on environmental conditions.... I know next to nothing about this interesting group.

I lost the sample I was carrying back in my bucket to help with id of the wattle. The pods at this time of year made me think it was not silver wattle. When I get back there I'll try again.
