They are quite robust and warty looking plants. They might be G. procera. Would you happen to know if the plants were bent like a shepherd's crook when in bud? G. procera would be erect while G. sesamoides is typically crook-shaped when in bud.
So I had a look back at my messages and this is the other information I got from my nephew (he thought they were weeds!!!). No perfume (I asked him to check) and he had seen them in previous years. 83-93cm tall. I looked at the blurry video he sent me and they are not crooked.
