Thanks Michael. There are three small bottlebrushes in the yard, all of which have recently had their foliage attacked... would this guy have anything to do with that?

Yes almost certainly the culprit - you can pick them off with your fingers if others are still there, but you could also consider yourself as a gardener of native sawflies in addition to bottlebrush flowers

Happy to become a sawfly gardener... the possums don't allow me much success at anything else.
