Leaf width not so different between the two ? Flora Vic gives leaf width for P. varia as 0.5 to 2 cm. PlantNet gives 10-20 mm.

Perhaps but P.varia tends to have quite wide leaves which several rows of teeth such as this one Plantago varia (Native Plaintain)
P.guadichaudii is the species with the narrow leaves and inrolled margins that are often entire as with your specimen Plantago gaudichaudii (Narrow Plantain)
I find that P.varia is a september-november thing while P.gaudichaudii flowers later in December or january.
