Significant sighting

Rarely if at all recorded in our region previously. According to ALA records this is a disjunct records from the nearest record in mid Victoria

User's notes

A wasp mimic, especially in flight when the long hind legs with pale ends look very wasp like. I think this individual was newly emerged as the elytra almost seem transparent and the colour of the thorax is paler than most images on ALA

If this ID is correct this would be a disjunct record from other records on ALA which are clustered in Tasmania and Victoria

Thanks for looking into this. M. corthurnatus looks like a good match http://bezbycids.com/byciddb/wdetails.asp?id=20065&w=o especially given the transparent elytra. Maybe the successive wet years has allowed them to move north - this is the only one I’ve seen.

I had also come back from a driving/walking holiday in Tasmania on the 22 of November so it could have hitched a ride
