Thanks for the suggestion HaukeKoch, it has pointed out that we may have an issue with our ID of Abispa ephippium as the images there look the same. I will spend some time with the key and the images and try to sort it out
Thanks, I can see what you mean comparing the "Abispa ephippium" images on CNM with the pictures identified as that species on iNaturalist. I don't have a key unfortunately, would you be able to give me a reference?
I found this quote from Marco Selis on Flickr (https://www.flickr.com/photos/philipnsw/51968377298)
"-Abispa: longer and broader head behind eyes, lacks that triangular depression in the middle of vertex, three-toothed metanotum, large triangular lobes on sides of propodeum, prestigma about 4 times longer than pterostigma, first tergite more squared and with a basal tubercle in the middle ;
-Anterhynchium: shorter and narrower head, triangular depression behind ocelli, rounded metanotum, propodeum rounded or at most with fine denticles, prestigma 0.5-1.5x as long as pterostigma, first tergite more rounded (nearly hemispherical) and without tubercle."
The metanotum and propodeum in my picture appears rounded and not shaped like described for Abispa. I think I can also see the triangular depression in the middle of the vertex behind the ocelli. I think a number of other observations on CNM labelled as Abispa may also be Anterhynchium following this.
Here is a picture that shows the difference in metasoma and propodeum shape in Abispa ephippium well: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/109432069.
Here is a link to the key https://journals.australian.museum/carpenter-2021-rec-aust-mus-733-87101/ Yes after a quick look I think we have a mix labeled Abispa, so do iNaturalist and ALA. I will add Anterhynchium and sort our records out over next few days
