The puffballs are shown in their open position following heavy rain. Sighting 4396801 shows how this type of puffball appears when dried out and closed, which occurs over the 24 hours following rain. They open and close regularly as rain passes through the area and when open, stand up clear of the ground. The puffballs are not attached to the ground and can be moved around.
