There are some sightings of Geoglossum but this one is given as Geoglossum sp. (genus). The names should be merged but I am not sure which is preferred. I think they show as Geoglossum on Atlas of Living Australia.
Is there any relationship to Ophioglossum lusitanicum (Adder's Tongue) a small fern fronds solitary or in pairs tongue -shaped? they sort of look a bit similar. I've seen it when walking in reserves
This is the fruiting body of a fungus. It might look a bit like the spike of Ophioglossum but you would also see leaves on that, as shown in https://canberra.naturemapr.org/sightings/4312210.
