I had seen a tailed emperor flying around Holder over the course of about a month but not been able to get a photo of it - then I found this one injured on the ground. I don't know enough about this species behaviour to guess whether it might have been the same individual? It had most of a hind wing missing and may have been grabbed by a bird.
Hi Miranda, I'm guessing you were seeing different individuals around Holder. Often when it is the end of the flight period for a butterfly, individuals increasingly look tatty and damaged.
