Flower dimensions and number of bracts consistent with Fireweed.
Unfortunately seed has been and is being shed.
Location shown on image is not quite accurate - not in the grassy area, but in the treed area, near a cherry ballart - have moved point closer to the actual location.
No because I was not sure of the species at the time, but did suspect fireweed. Also it has obviously been flowering and seeding for some time so the site will have to be marked so it can be monitored in the future. I have contacted the rangers about this.
Barb well spotted! the Mfw I found further north at the Fair project site was in flower & highly visible - I've spent quite some time in the last 2 summers monitoring for the species but this one escaped me. I'm keen to GPS the exact location and possibly remove whatever is left - I'm not sure whether PCS will act but perhaps they responded to you? Mfw was introduced with turf to the Gungahlin; unfortunately with the prevailing northwesterly wind in Summer, I expect Mfw to invade Mt Majura's grassy woodlands.
