Hi WHall, thanks for the sighting. The ant is certainly Myrmecia, but pretty sure it is in the Myrmecia pilosula group. Myrmecia fucosa seems not to be common anywhere and is a mainly brown ant mostly found in South Australia. Did you have a specific reason why you suggested it? Cheers, Jon

Hi Jon, no reason. i could not find just the genus name so just clicked on the name M. fucosa!! Can you suggest a species?

Hi WHall, no worries, that makes sense. In the drop down list you should see "Myrmecia sp. (genus)" as a possibility for next time. Around the ACT the species you saw is probably Myrmecia pilosula or Myrmecia croslandi, but they are difficult to tell apart unless you have them under the microscope, so they get recorded in CNM as "Myrmecia pilosula species group". Cheers, Jon
