Demetrida vittata is a smaller species that, in the ACT, occurs at lower altitudes in eucalyptus woodlands, e.g. around Canberra. D. grandis is larger and more elongate, and is found in the wetter (and mostly higher) southern and western parts of the ACT. Both can be found under the bark of eucalypts during the day, and I suppose they come out at night to hunt. Both are similar in colour, but there is a third Demetrida – D. suturata – that is an even brown colour, except that the suture is a little paler. This also occurs around Canberra.
