Hi Michael - what resource would you recommend to try this? I find Euclid will give either 100 species or 0 species!

I associate this as E. viminalis: Eucalyptus viminalis (Ribbon Gum)

Well done Danswell - your such a brilliant student- Meredith Cosgrove's book a photographic guide to the plants of the ACT is a great local guide as is teh on-line Canberra nature map eucalyptus pages.

Also, the moss growing on the trunk implies this tree does not shed its bark regularly. So I don't think that is consistent with E. viminalis. My next guess would be E. fastigata, but that is based solely on the bark, which I can't differentiate from broad-leafed peppermint anyway.
