That's an unusual one. I think this is Chiloglottis X pescottiana which is a hybrid between C. valida and C. trapeziformis. I know C. trapeziformis is in the area, but the closest C. valida I am aware of occurs in the ANBG (the hybrid occurs in that colony too). Either the pollinator flew a long way, or there are some C. valida nearby.
Right that's interesting! I thought it looked too big and with a different form to be a c. trapeziformis. There were about 15 or so about to come into flower in the colony so I'll check back there soon to see what they turn out to be. I'll also have a look in the area for C. valida. Are there certain features such as gullies that C.valida tend to occur in?
I guess anywhere that retains a bit of moisture and receives partial sun, however I don't think they like gullies as much as trapeziformis. That probably doesn't narrow it down much, but they aren't particularly fussy (at least in Namadgi).
