The two ants were fighting with each other and were rolling around in a ball while biting each other. I’ve not seen this behaviour in ants before but I imagine it is a normal occurrence.

Hi Ned, fighting is pretty common among ants, normally over territory or food resources. These two were probably from different nests and one has strayed into the other’s territory. Cheers, Jon
