Moths of Victoria say P. bistrigula has a prominent, oblique 'hairpin shaped, white reniform mark with a distinct tail and a plain brown, red-brown or purple-brown thorax. This moth has a two-tone (white and brown) reniform mark without a distinct tail.

There are at least three un-named species recognised by Moths of Victoria with this two-tone white and brown reniform mark., their species P. sp.(14), P. sp.(22) ,P. sp.(24) and P. meladora. I think this moth is a good match for their P. sp. (24)(i.e the orbicular marks and the thorax pattern looks right). The page 2/2 for that species (Part 9) summaries the similarities and differences. The species was described by Common in 1956 (Black Mt ACT) and occurs in Victoria. I have already suggested sighting No. 4376923 is this species also.
