Interesting suggestion, Don. It had the same purple body as hyalinatus. Maybe I shouldn't have let it go...

Many of the Hepialidae have variable reddish or purplish hindwings, abdomen and undersides in real life, although the colour fades after death, so is not always documented in photographs of pinned specimens.
