Know the size, Tim?

Sure @Birdy. The brick mortar joint is 15mm high so from the second image I've assumed the wasp is around 20mm body length, or 25mm allowing for the antennae.

Hi Tim, sorry for the late reply. Based on a 20mm size, I don't think that it Pison westwoodii, which is only 9 mm. It could be Pison spinolae, with can be as big as 16mm, though I'm not yet sure. You said around 20mm, so could it have been as small as 16mm?

Hi @Birdy. Thanks for your help with the identification. I've rechecked the brick mortar joint dimension at the location where the wasp nest was (long since gone) and conservatively, allowing for the antennae, then 25mm overall body length seems right, based on the second image. Maybe just less than 20mm head to tail length when not taking the antennae into account, but I think 16mm might be too small. Hope this helps. Tim
