Significant sighting

MichaelMulvaney noted:

26 Jun 2023

This species has bene spreading in the Northern Hemisphere and is a vector of a number of plant viruses. Not sure if the viruses are present in our region, but as far as I can tell this is only teh second electronic record of this leafhopper in Australia - teh other record was from near Batlow.

Only just noticed that we have adult and nymph from same location so I am pretty confident on the identification

Confirmed by Murray Fletcher author of the key to Cicadellidae, He recalls that there is earlier record from Canberra 10 years ago. Not recorded anywhere since until the currant sighting. Unfortunately not an effective biocontrol agent for privet.

That makes four introduced cicadellid species in the ACT.

I forgot to say the first sighting in Canberra was by the late Max Day
