I am unclear how to distinguish Hestiochora furcata from Hestiochora tricolor.

That's probably not possible, and we've been storing them under Hestiochora furcata, for which there are many Black Mountain records over the years.

If it's helpful and there are features that can help discriminate, I have more photos. Alternatively, I can capture it.

The reference book for Zygaenidae (Tarmann) says that species of the H. tricolor group are essentially indistinguishable unless the genitalia are dissected (or I guess using DNA). Havin a couple of specimens from another place would be good. Preferably the male and the much heavier bodied female.
