Hardy herb with attractive blue flower, surviving in poor, fairly dry soil on steep side of hill. Flowering for most of November into December. Elongated seed capsule, pointed at end.

You need to remove and bag the seed pods before they open and release the seeds. Split open a pod and you will see hundreds of seeds and the white down (pappus) that catches the wind.
The plants have a thickened root that has to be dug out. Manageable if your numbers are right.

Thanks Mike, I'll start removing them next time I walk up on the ridge. A pity, as it's an attractive flower but it clearly has to go!
