Interestingly, those carry food were all carrying it up the tree rather than down.

Hi Alison, nice photo again. Podomyrma will sometimes nest in the ground near the base of a tree, but more commonly have nests in a crack, hollow or dead branch up a tree. The ants you saw may have been foraging on the ground and taking the food back up to the nest. Cheers, Jon
