I've been keeping my eyes out for katydid species in the various grassland patches I visit but haven't managed to spot one yet. How did you spot this one? Was it by call, or just lucky to spot it jumping?
This one was calling from long grass next to the track. Aside from long grass in grasslands, I've found that gardens are a nice spot for katydids (they'll be on the stems or leaves of various plants). In nature reserves, following around grasshoppers will also tend to lead you to some too. If you're targeting katydids in particular though, I recommend their calls! Good luck!
