I think this one's a Carab beetle Christine. I've had lots of similar ones come to my blacklight in Melba but not this particular one :). Maybe Agonocheila sp.? ?

Thanks Bron, I'm still not good on distinguishing bugs from beetles sometimes. Think I've changed it to beetles anyway, does look similar to Agonocheila sp., but there are not many examples.

Aren't there more beetles on earth than any other insect order? Something like that anyhow. I so often find undescribed ones...

Australia has so many undescribed species from many classes, I guess there is just not enough budget and expertise to get the classifications done. Yes, it seems there are more species of beetle than other insects, I wonder if there are more total number of beetles than other insects as well.. there certainly are some beautiful and fascinating beetles around :)
