Significant sighting

HarveyPerkins noted:

4 Oct 2020

This species is generally quite rare in Canberra.

User's notes

There were at least two males in addition to this tandem pair cruising the Isabella wetlands today. They're very active and fast, so I was lucky to manage to snap off these shots when they came down for the female to lay eggs (which is a very brief process). CNM had a single female recorded last season (in January) in Chapman, so there may have been a few about to lay eggs and I suspect these may have grown as larvae in this pond and have recently eclosed as adults. It would be great if all dragonfly photographers could keep an eye out for this species across Canberra this season so we can get a better idea of just what their behaviour and status here is.

saw them there today, tried to get pics of them today thought they were Scarlet Perchers but they just didn't perch at all. Well done Harvey.

They're about twice the length / 3x the 'size' of a Scarlet Percher. Bigger than the Tau Emeralds, smaller than the Blue-spotted Hawkers and Australian Emperors that are also there at the moment.

Yes they all looked big but were so fast so you did well to get your photos. Thanks for the info looks like we may be going back sometime again soon.
