I suspect this is a Gambusia rather than a Galaxias. Fin shape, eye location and scale definition are more gambusia. Often they are observed waving their tail fin slightly even in still water.

This is my first fish sighting so I'm hoping there is enough for a general ID at the very least. Apologies if not. There were 3-5 in a small pool that was part of the creek (which has water in it for the first time I remember in years). I estimate between 3-4 cm in length
