Unknown animal dug an unusual (in my view) conical hole. Grateful for any thoughts.

Definitely looks like a bandicoot digging to me as well. We have long nosed bandicoot just down the road on the Mongarlowe river.

Thank you both. That's what we thought, too. Do you think that it might also be a bandicoot digging around the roots of bursaria spinosa (sighting #4344400)? Or a different animal? (definitely not a pig or wombat)

The one at the base of the bursaria looks less convincing to me but a bit tricky to tell from the photo. Doesn't quite look neat enough or the typical conical shape but then again there are a lot of roots in the way.
