Leaves aren't hairy enough to be Swainsona sericea which is the only Swainsona recorded on the Pinnacle - so this will be a new species record - I can't be certain that it is not Swainsona monticola but behriana seems to be the best fit - either way an important record
Hi Michael, that is exciting! I have found another one located nearby along the Macroryncha Track not far from yesterday’s find. I hope today’s photo show the leaves a bit better.
Thanks Alison - good to raise ID suggestions and comments - hopefully we will resolve the ID of this one - it could be sericea so second opinions are valued
Hi Sarah, Where was this one located? I've just been up to the Pinnacle and after a good look round, could only find the Swainsona sericea by the Macroryncha Track that I recorded in 2016. Thanks Alison
Hi Alison Both were sited whilst walking along the Macroryncha Track, the first one was about a metre In from the edge of the road, the second is actually growing in the side of the road. I went back on Thursday to try and take better photos but sadly, I couldn’t find it again. Maybe I will have more luck locating it again tomorrow.
The only reliable way to distinguish S. behriana from S. sericea, is to examine the way the hairs on the stems are afixed. Sericea has medifixed hairs and behriana has basifixed hairs.
