Sorry about the horrible photo but i didn't have my flash with me and had to shoot at 1/15. I searched flies and Beeflies but could not find anything that looked like this.

Hi Shorty, I found some like this a while ago. The white bands are actually a fungus growing on the fly.

Sorry but cant help with the fly ID, but think this sighting deserves to be logged as an Entomophthora sighting as well.

Yes, thanks for that information tpreston, I guess that also explains why it did not fly away with your camera so close to it Shorty. It was about 1.5 m off the ground?
