User's notes

Umbagong Fungi Project: The first 4 photos were taken 2 July 2020. The photo measurement of the largest was taken 2 August 2020. Colour appeared black to the naked eye. Found below a moist east-facing shady slope. Heino Lepp: "Peziza sp. is possible but given the dark colour, other possibilities include Plectania sp., Pseudoplectania sp. or Urnula sp. The grubs are found fairly often on fungi of various sorts. My guess is that it belongs to the Collembola (perhaps the genus Hypogastrura)".

Great fungi find. And great shot of the bugs (springtails? they deserve their own sighting.)
What is the Umbagong fungi project? I love fungi, and Umbagong is my most common walking space as I live nearby.

It's an Umbagong Landcare Group project. As it was a wet Autumn I figured it would be a great year to see what fungi were out there. Also a fun way of learning more about fungi. I've uploaded a few pdfs of the fungi found so far onto the Umbagong Landcare Group webpage (Ginninderra Catchment Group website) but they will probably have to be replaced as I've noticed a few errors. Other members have been invited to contribute but so far it is mainly 2 of us doing the photographing! (Feel free to participate!) I wanted to record fungi in neighbouring suburbs too as there is very little so far recorded for Macgregor and Latham.

Well I will definitely take special note of fungi on my Umbagong walks and post them on Canberra nature map. Or do they need to be posted on the Landcare site?

It's probably a good thing to upload them on CNM - a more widely-used site than our landcare page! We were originally only planning a photographic record to upload onto our webpage but were persuaded to upload them all onto CNM - a huge job as we now have hundreds of photos!
If you'd like photos included in our compiled pdfs, we'd love to have them. You can contact Umbagong Landcare Group c/- the GCG email. The GCG email is: landcare [at] ginninderralandcare.org.au Another option is I could figure out how to get permission to use any Umbagong fungi photos you upload via CNM.

You are certainly welcome to use any photos I put up on this site for your fungi project.
