Umbagong Fungi Project: Scale diagrams available. To access them, go to the Ginninderra Catchment Group website; Umbagong Landcare Group webpage. The first 3 photos were taken on 24-26 June 2020. The last 2 on 18 July 2020. Many additional photos were also taken. The mushroom was growing in soil covered in leaf litter (clearing in Eucalypts) against a log. Cone length 5cm. Maximum diameter of the cone opening 6cm, horizontal stem length 10cm (estimates). When checked on 9th July, the fungus was no longer there. The area is not frequented by people, so it was presumably eaten. On 18 July we excavated the leaf litter to soil level and managed to find a remnant of stem. The stem was growing in soil and the fungus appears to have used fissures in the log as a support to grow horizontally then vertically.
