These were growing from the ground in an open, mossy area amongst grass tussocks. In the first photo you see collapsed partial veil remnants (the brighter brown bands around the upper parts of several stems). In the second photo you see one mushroom with an intact partial veil and the other with the cap expanded enough to break the veil and show the gills.
