It is possibly a really old specimen of a Fistulina but I have not come across one that looks that old. You can see an example of a fresh young specimen and an older specimen at the specimen page https://canberra.naturemapr.org/Species/15561

Thank you. Yes it was old when I found it, just growing on a tree in an urban walking path. Would have been spectacular to see it when it was young.
