Leaves on V. virgatum and V. blattaria are similar. Weeds of the South-East by Richardson, Richardson and Shepherd says for V. blattaria 'Flowers are pale pink, white or yellow on relatively long stalks, giving the inflorescence an open appearance.' Flowers on V. virgatum are yellow with a purple centre. PlantNet key distinguishes V. blattaria from V. virgatum by the length of the pedicel (flower stalk).
