Are you able to get an image of what it looks like underneath? Is the surface underneath smooth or does it have gills or pores or a maze like mix of each?

Thanks, Ken. I'll see whether I can get back there and will let you know. I actually just looked at CNM for ID and then thought it looked (more or less) the same. your comment makes me think there are a number of different Trametes species.

I suspect this is a dark form of Trametes versicolor with small pores underneath but it might also be a Stereum - smooth underneath. This webpage (with a few pictures) will give you a brief introduction to the genus https://wordpress.clarku.edu/polypeet/projects/trametes/ The literature does have a lot of species names associated with the genus Trametes but many may be synonyms. Anyway it is usually good practice to try for both upper and lower surface images when it comes to many groups of fungi.

Hi Ken. I haven't been able to get back to have another look, sorry. I'll certainly try to take photos in future that makes your ID easier. Thanks again for your help.
