The dragonfly was sighted resting after a recent cold night. The fourth and fifth images show what I understand to be part of the dragonfly’s respiratory system, an anterior thoracic spiracle valve behind the dragonfly’s head. It was beating open and closed every two seconds, serving the head and the wing muscles. The valve is the circular yellow object with a fold across it, located behind the head and in the centre of each image. Toggling between the two images shows the valve beat closed/open. It is closed in the fourth image and open in the fifth image.
