have never seen the "skirt" that these fungi had - which seem to distintegrate and fall off

Sandra, I see lots of what appear to be tree leaves around the fungus but the location on the map appears to be in a paddock well away from any living trees according to google images. SO is the location correct?

Ken, it was in the cork oak forest, but quite close to the edge - possibly 2 rows in.

Any chance you could correct the location for this and the other images? I suspect you have found Amanita phalloides amongst the oaks. I haven't seen these for 35 yrs or more and my images are all on slide film, I'd been waiting years for a wet autumn to look for these again but given the travel restrictions it won't be this year or perhaps even next year.

I don't have GPS, but I might go back in next day or so with my old Garmin GPS and get an accurate point.
