I've never seen anything like this on Cooleman Ridge before - I think it's a cactus

There have been some big cacti removed from Cooleman Ridge, I think the south end.

It is certainly Opuntia. I am not absolutely sure of the species.

I will try to find out: I only remember seeing a car-load of it being dropped off at Parks Athllon Depot a few years ago so it was probably O. ficus-indica (spineless). O. ficus-indica is rampant on Scrivener Hill but there is also O. stricta which has some spines. I can see spines on this sighting so think it would be O. stricta, though I think both could have some spines when young.
