From the shape I think this is possibly more like a shield bug.

No the photo is very close to the colour in reality. Iridescent blue / black

This is a confirmation by Kim P. of Scutiphora pedicellata, which is a dark blue instead of the usual green:

Yes! I posted another set of photos this afternoon and have it in a jar if needed (out was already dead)

The confirmed blue/black one was also dead.
