A rather unusual view! I assume images 1, 3 and 4 are all of the same chewed plant. Were many plants flowering?

Yes 1, 3 and 4 are the same plant, rather pretty like this. They were seen flowering in small numbers at several points along the track from the state park to Carroll's Creek, including one cluster of 13 flowers.
My previous visit a few years ago at the end of September yielded higher numbers of these along with about 7 other orchid species which were not seen on this occasion, so it must still be a bit early in the season for the area.
