User's notes

Hopped across my front yard, first time I've seen one here. Photo taken in a neighbours yard. It appeared to have a problem with its paws, and stopped to tend them, but was spooked by another neighbour and hopped off.

Hi Christine, EGKs lick their forearms when stressed and when hot. This one was some distance from any of the resident urban populations living in open space areas. During that journey it could have been barked at, or chased by dogs, or frightened in other ways. When stressed they often seem to have difficulty making the right decisions to escape harm and get back home but if left unmolested they tend to eventually relax enough to find their way back, mostly.
