User's notes

I brought home this cocoon (last photo) thinking it was a moth, but these critters are what emerged. Location is where I collected the cocoon.

Alison, I'm sure it is a moth cocoon, and our moth experts might be able to identify the family. Do you know the host plant? Kim.

Hi Kim. It was on an Acacia. I kept it in a container by itself and after a week or so these wasps emerged so if it is a moth cocoon it must have been parasitised.

Re. chalcid wasps: "Most species are primary endoparasitoids of lepidopteran (moth and butterfly)".

Thanks. I have a second cocoon taken at the same time. I'll see if anything emerges from that. Nothing so far.
