The yellow flowered Tragopogon dubius is also present on Mount Rogers. It looks the same, except for the colour of the flowers.

The Plantnet key: porrifolius - outer ray florets (‘petals’j purple; involucral bracts (narrow leaflike thingies pressed closely to the part of the flower behind the ‘petals’j 8. Dubius-outer ray florets yellow, involucral bracts 8-12.
