Is this an aberration of the tree or a parasite just taking 'root'?

It a gall, either a virus, fungus or insect infection has caused abnormal growth in the gum tree, a bit analogous to cancer in mammals. It looks like it is a yellow box which may help with the ID of what caused the gall.

Thanks. I didn't think it was normal growth. Many of these sapling trees in the area.
