This looks very much like the Mallotus Harlequin Bug, Cantao parentum, but this jewel bug supposively only feeds on Mallotus trees a dry rainforest species - so what is it doing in Tidbinbilla?

Some shield and Jewel bugs undertake long range migrations. The Atlas shows a record on the strand in central NSW that could result from a southward migration and there is a specimen collected from Narrandera. So I suspect migration. Stuart was very lucky to find this specimen as very few individuals would be present after the migration.

Ah well, the things you see when out in Mother Nature! Thank you gentlemen for the information. It blew me away when I saw it, not exactly Tidbinbilla but up Corin Forest Road just before Woods Res turnoff. Was head high in flowering Kunzea.

enjoy Roger, a couple of good patches of Lepto still in flower but mostly Kunzea. Have found some larger Buprestids recently at the highest point of flowering Kunzea....
